It often precedes motor symptoms by years, contributing significantly to a worsening of the quality of life. In addition to the dysfunction of enteric innervation caused by alpha-synuclein aggregates, dopaminergic drugs can also worsen the intestinal picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is in this context that the study on&nbsp;<strong>Aleman,<\/strong>&nbsp;a medical device based on fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) and D-mannitol, is designed to improve intestinal motility and counteract chronic constipation in Parkinson\u2019s patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clinical Study Method<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 6-week observational clinical study involved 20 patients diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s and constipation according to the Rome II criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rome II criteria are international clinical guidelines used to diagnose functional gastrointestinal disorders, such as constipation and irritable bowel syndrome, based on the presence and frequency of symptoms.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All subjects discontinued their usual laxatives to start treatment with&nbsp;<strong>Aleman<\/strong>, dissolved in lukewarm water, in the morning. The dosage could vary from 1 to 3 sachets per day based on the response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following were evaluated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Weekly frequency of bowel movements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of rescue rectal laxatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Score on a questionnaire about 4 symptoms: straining during evacuation, sensation of incomplete emptying, tenesmus, hard stools (total score from 0 to 12)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clinical Results: Significant Improvements in Bowel Movements, Laxatives, and Quality of Life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The effectiveness of the treatment with Aleman was measured considering three fundamental parameters: average number of bowel movements, use of daily laxatives, and the score of the qualitative questionnaire administered to patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As illustrated in the following graph:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pjpharma.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/download-14.webp\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pjpharma.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/download-14-1024x301.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7409\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fig. A:<\/strong>\u00a0The average number of bowel movements almost doubled after 30 days of treatment (<strong>IR = 1,97; IC 95%: 1,75\u20132,21; p &lt; 0,001<\/strong>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fig. B:<\/strong>\u00a0The use of laxatives was drastically reduced (<strong>IR = 0,39; IC 95%: 0,21\u20130,74; p = 0,004<\/strong>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fig. C:<\/strong>\u00a0Subjective discomfort decreased in a statistically significant way (<strong>\u22123,5 points; IC 95%: \u22124,0 a \u22122,8; p &lt; 0,001<\/strong>), signalling a clear improvement in the perception of intestinal well-being.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These results highlight the effectiveness of&nbsp;<strong>Aleman<\/strong>&nbsp;in promoting intestinal regularity, reducing the need for laxatives, and improving digestive comfort in patients in a short time, making it a safe and well-tolerated option for the management of constipation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Aleman<\/strong>&nbsp;is confirmed as an effective and well-tolerated strategy for the management of constipation in patients suffering from Parkinson\u2019s disease.
