The PJ Pharma medical device that harnesses the power of nature to protect the respiratory mucosa

Snail slime has long been part of the daily routine of those who love taking care of their skin. It is known for its moisturizing and restorative qualities, capable of making the skin softer and more protected. But its properties do not stop at the skin level. This natural mucus, rich in mucopolysaccharides and film-forming substances, can adhere to biological surfaces, creating a protective film and maintaining a high level of hydration.

Characteristics that, surprisingly, can also be useful in a very different area: respiratory well-being. When the throat is irritated or the mucosa becomes dry, coughing tends to become persistent and bothersome. And it is precisely here that snail slime shows interesting potential.

Snail slime and airways: help for irritation and cough

Recent scientific literature highlights how snail slime can moisturize and lubricate the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, supporting their natural regeneration. This ability becomes valuable when coughing is caused by irritation, dryness, or inflammation.

Over time, snail slime has also been used as a natural remedy for conditions such as chronic bronchitis or whooping cough, thanks to its emollient and soothing action. What makes it effective is its ability to create a sort of protective film over the mucous membranes: a true natural “mantle” that reduces friction, eases the tickling sensation, and limits contact with external irritants.

A better-protected mucosa becomes less sensitive to the coughing stimulus, helping to break that vicious cycle in which irritation itself causes more coughing. Snail slime therefore does not act as a sedative, but as a physical-mechanical support that alleviates the local cause of dry or tickly cough.

Balatus: when nature meets PJ Pharma technology

Based on these characteristics, PJ Pharma developed Balatus, a medical device designed for those suffering from dry, irritative, or chronic cough, and for those seeking a natural yet effective support.

Balatus is born from the union of natural tradition and scientific innovation. Its core is Bala Complex®, a complex made of snail slime, hyaluronic acid of different molecular weights, and cyclodextrins, designed to create optimal adhesion to the throat mucosa. This highly mucoadhesive structure forms a uniform and persistent film capable of:
