Myo-inositol, vitamins and chromium: nutritional support for female metabolic and hormonal balance

Diacare is a food supplement in sachets combining myo-inositol, alpha-lipoic acid, N-acetylcysteine, folic acid, vitamins B6, B12 and D3, and chromium.

The formulation has been developed to provide nutritional support for women’s well-being, with a particular focus on metabolic and hormonal balance.

The combination of its ingredients provides targeted nutritional support, with particular attention to energy metabolism, the regulation of hormonal activity, and the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels.

PCOS and metabolic balance: an integrated approach

Polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), is an endocrine-metabolic condition that may present with menstrual irregularities, ovulatory dysfunction, and signs of hyperandrogenism. In some women, it may also be associated with insulin resistance and alterations in glucose metabolism.

The management of PCOS requires a personalized approach, which may include lifestyle interventions, metabolic assessment, and medical treatments based on individual symptoms and goals. The 2023 international guidelines emphasize the importance of considering both reproductive and metabolic aspects, avoiding an approach limited solely to gynecological symptoms.

Myo-inositol and alpha-lipoic acid: the rationale behind the formulation

Myo-inositol is a naturally occurring molecule in the body involved in several cellular signaling processes. It has attracted scientific interest in the context of PCOS due to its potential role in mechanisms related to insulin sensitivity and ovarian function.

Alpha-lipoic acid is a substance involved in cellular energy metabolism and antioxidant systems. Its combination with myo-inositol has been investigated in some nutraceutical formulations intended for women with PCOS, particularly in relation to metabolic parameters.

Diacare combines these two ingredients with N-acetylcysteine, vitamins, and minerals, providing a comprehensive formulation for women’s nutritional support.

N-acetylcysteine, vitamins and chromium: complementary functions

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a derivative of the amino acid cysteine and a precursor of glutathione, one of the main molecules involved in the body’s antioxidant systems.

The formulation also includes micronutrients with recognized physiological functions:

  • Vitamin B6: contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity and normal energy-yielding metabolism.
  • Vitamin B12: contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Folic acid: contributes to normal amino acid synthesis and maternal tissue growth during pregnancy.
  • Vitamin D: contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to the maintenance of normal bones.
  • Chromium: contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism and to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels.

Scientific evidence on inositol in PCOS

Insulin resistance is one of the metabolic features most frequently associated with polycystic ovary syndrome. For this reason, research has investigated the role of nutritional ingredients such as myo-inositol and alpha-lipoic acid, with particular attention to glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity.

A systematic review and meta-analysis published in Obstetrics & Gynecology Science analyzed seven randomized clinical trials investigating alpha-lipoic acid supplementation, either alone or in combination with inositol, in women with PCOS. The results showed a reduction in fasting blood glucose and HOMA-IR, a parameter used to assess insulin resistance. The authors therefore identified a potential role for alpha-lipoic acid in supporting the metabolic management of PCOS.

Diacare fits within this area of scientific interest through a formulation combining 4,000 mg of myo-inositol and 120 mg of alpha-lipoic acid with N-acetylcysteine, vitamins, and chromium, providing targeted nutritional support for women’s well-being and normal metabolic functions. Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels, while vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity.
